Travel to Soma Bay
Travel to Abu Soma is relatively simple - there are a number of flights direct from Gatwick and Manchester Airports that fly direct to Hurgada, after which it’s only a 40km or so coach drive to Abu Soma Bay itself.
However, here are a few travel tips:
1. Travel Visa: It costs around £10 per person to enter the country - if you enter Egypt at Cairo you’ll have already paid this. If flying direct to Hurgada from the UK, make sure you have money ready to pay for your visa for entry. Rates are charged in US dollars, and use small denomination pound notes and coins to over this. Egyptians are not famous for giving back proper change from a £20! More Egypt travel advice from the foreign office.
2. Vaccinations: At present, there are no mandatory requirements for inoculation in Egypt for the Red Sea coast. However, a number of vaccinations for Egypt are recommended.
3. Insurance: As with all holidays overseas, do ensure you have full and proper travel insurance. TIP: It’s worth considering getting a Nationwide travel insurance policy - namely because if you use a Nationwide credit card abroad you are charged far less on currency conversion than any other credit card by any other lender. Therefore it’s worth getting a Nationwide current account (know as a Flexaccount) just for your holiday, attaching a Nationwide credit card to it, and then getting travel insurance as well. That way, in the event of an emergency, you only need a single number - to the Nationwide Building Society!
